LUTE OLSON AWARD "PLAYER OF THE WEEK" HONORS
[return to collegeinsider.com]

Dec.  15, 2014

BOSTON (MA) -- Notre Dame's Zach Auguste and Tennessee's Josh Richardson share Lute Olson award national player of the week honors.

Auguste had a career-high 26 points and added 7 rebounds to lead the Irish a win over Florida State in the ACC opener for both teams. The 6-foot-10 junior had 19 points and 8 rebounds earlier in the week in a win over Mount St. Mary's.

Richardson scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to help rally the Volunteers past Butler. The 6-foot-6 senior also had 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals in the win. Earlier in the week Richardson had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in Tennessee's win over Kansas State.

The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named to the All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year honors.

The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
