BOSTON (MA) -- Notre Dame's Zach Auguste and Tennessee's Josh
Richardson share Lute Olson award
national player of the week honors.
Auguste had a career-high 26 points and added 7 rebounds to lead
the Irish a win over Florida State in the ACC opener for both
teams. The 6-foot-10 junior had 19 points and 8 rebounds earlier
in the week in a win over Mount St. Mary's.
Richardson scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to help
rally the Volunteers past Butler. The 6-foot-6 senior also had 3
rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals in the win. Earlier in the week
Richardson had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in
Tennessee's win over Kansas State.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top
Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his
respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named
to the All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the
Player of the Year honors.
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who
won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the
University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats
to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments,
four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
